Documentary complete postcard

postcard process

We were asked to create a postcard for our documentary which would advertise our documentary. The postcard had to do three main things. Firstly, the postcard had to fit the conventions of a film festival postcard, such as a big title and simplistic imagery.. Secondly the postcard must help create a further sense of theme within the product. By reinforcing previously seen color schemes, imagery or even font. This helps create a brand. Lastly, we wanted out postcard to have an informative element to it. So we included the awards won and social media links.
We used photo shop to create the postcard, I personally was mostly involved in the creative and designing process of the postcard's production, as I helped create a sense of branding and simplicity. Firstly, the most noticeable feature between our products is that the postcard and poster use the same background. This helps to relate the products and causes the color blue in the background to be associated with out products. The title was created using the text tool, we used a bright white color in order to contrast the background. And we also chose a similar font to the font within the documentary. The size of the title was also done to make it stand out more, and also fit the conventions of a film festival postcard.
For the iconic photograph. We chose one that is representative of gaming. So we simply decided to use the same controller picture as we did for the poster. We used a magic wand tool to cut the backgrounds out to make it look more professional. Furthermore, we chose to position our image in the center of our postcard which makes it much more prominent than the other elements in our postcard. We also added our names at the bottom right corner. This is because these are not very important for the success of the product so we simply decided to type them in a small font in the corner.
The next step was now to add final touches. We added film festival awards from google to add a sense of professionalism to our production. We also added the logos of social media sites, which is another convention of postcards. And finally, we used the paint bucket tool to fill the title with different colors, which makes it stand out more. Furthermore we used the paint bucket tool to also make the social media logos stand out more as it is important that audiences get information by visiting our pages.

Sound editing

Sound editing and sound capture was definitely a very challenging aspect of our project. We were challenged with firstly, choosing what type of song we would like playing. we understood fully that this introduction tune may act as our soundtrack and therefore be representative of the themes and tones of the documentary. Once we chose the type of music we were looking for, we could either one that is not copyrighted, or create our own. Fortunately, after researching into video game related music we quickly discovered one that fit perfectly. Finding a soundtrack that we were allowed to use saved us the time that it would require to create one which is especially helpful due to the strict deadline.
We were able to use a boom-mic to record our sound, this allowed us to capture clear dialogue with little to no background noise. However, the boom mic also merged the clip and the sound together, meaning that the first step of our sound editing, was to split them apart in order to have more freedom when creating voice overs. Which was essential as our project utilized this technique quite often.

Furthermore. challenge was the organization of the sound clips. It was essential that they don't overlap. And also, due to stuttering and long pauses during filming we were required to cut the sound files. This meant that when organizing we had to create a sense of continuous speech which meant that the timing had to be just right. Furthermore, due to the separation of the video and sound clips, we were required to sync the files with the speech of the interviewees. We also had to control the volume of the dialogue and background music to ensure that the dialogue can be heard clearly, and that the volume of voice is consistent throughout the documentary.

Film poster

We've created a poster for our documentary. We chose to include the controller which is used during the documentary in order to further improve our branding. It is also similar to 'Indie game: the movie'. This was an intentional design as that was the inspiration behind BETA

behind the scenes

Below are pictures taken during our production process. This includes pictures of our filming and editing processes. Behind the scenes footage helps to show the work that goes into creating the product and is often appreciated by consumers. This is why we have chosen to include these images within the website to help us relate with our costumers.
